The Tangent to be joined by Jakko M Jakszyk: The Tangent's new album scheduled for release in early 2008 is set to feature Jakko M Jakszyk as guitarist. Jakko has an enormous history behind him in the story of progressive music, and his most recent solo album which features contributions from Robert Fripp, Mel Collins, (King Crimson) Clive Brooks, Dave Stewart (Egg National Health, Bruford) and Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) - is testament to just a part of that history. Entitled "The Bruised Romantic Glee Club", the album is not to be missed. you can buy his album from US here. Jakko's website is HERE . Jakko M Jakszyk Jakko's most well known recent project in progressive circles was as the lead guitarist and vocalist for the 21st Century Schizoid Band, a name given to the reincarnation of the early King Crimson... where Jakko had to be Robert Fripp and Greg Lake at the same time. Jakko steps into the Tangent to fill a space formerly occupied by Roine Stolt and Krister Jonsson. All the band welcome him and hope for a productive future........ Krister Jonsson has played guitar for the Tangent since Roine left in 2004. Although he won't be appearing on the forthcoming album, the band are fully mindful of the enormous contribution he has made to the Place In the Queue album, and to the live dates and live albums that have happened before and since "Queue". The forthcoming Karmakanic album will be another opportunity to hear the man play alongside Jonas and Zoltan.... and there's guest performances from Tangenteers Theo Travis (Sax) and Andy Tillison (Hammond & Moog).
Krister Jonsson The Tangent's fluid lineup has been essential to the development of the group. Early demos of the new album featuring Jakko are extremely tasty... Watch this space! IAN OAKLEY

TANGENT 4 - A Crisis In Midlife Tangent 4 "A Crisis in Midlife" is still in recording now... and is developing well. Although it won't see the light of day until next year... the tracks are now pretty much finalised. A recording session at Jonas' studio in Sweden is taking place in June, and Andy, Theo and Guy will continue to work on the album through the long Autumn months. New Guitarist Jakko M Jakszyk is currently working on the album in his studios in London.
an alarming shot of what Andy and Guy describe as "A Recording Session" "This is an album that concerns US" says Andy Tillison, "US being people of our age... middle aged if you like. All of us have spent so much time listening to songs about falling in love for the first time... or having problems with our parents. I thought it might be time to have a look at the world from OUR perspective and perhaps write songs about how WE feel." So far, around 70 minutes of material has been written. The album (so far) seems different in tone to the previous 3 Tangent records... but with all the familiar trademarks there. "We want to look at some new possibilities" says Guy Manning, who is working a lot closer with Andy since he (Andy) returned to England from France, "but we don't want to lose the Tangent feel. It's still about songs and the joy of playing. We've tried to use some new sources of inspiration... some new sounds and styles we haven't used before. Andy's lyrics are a lot more introspective on this one too... and that does affect the music and the way it flows" In the meantime... GUY's next album (to be mixed for the first time ever by Andy) "Songs from the Bilston House" is nearing completion. More news on that very soon...... but plenty of info at Guy's site

FOG - The first real Andy Tillison Solo Album
In answer to the "Andy Tillison Can't Sing" thread on the Progressive Ears forum... and similar threads which disapprove of political lyrics in Prog.... Andy's first solo album is all instrumental!!!! (That had nothing to do with it of course!!) This is an album of atmospheric and electronic music which fuses Electronic soundscapes a la Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Micheal Hoenig etc together with prog, jazz and other forms. For those of you who have enjoyed the Tangent bonus tracks "Exponenzgesatz" and "Kartoffelnsalat in Unterseeboot"... this is an album NOT to be missed. Available to preorder NOW from this site (delivery expected late JUNE) Hear a 5 minute excerpt here

OLDER NEWS
Jan 5th 2007 saw Theo in the DGM Soundworld studio in Wiltshire recording a series of improvised duos with legendary guitarist Robert Fripp - famous as a founder member and the sole surviving original member of the great band King Crimson. He is also well know for his guitar soundscapes which he pioneered and has developed since the early 1970s. Recordings from this exciting and special collaboration will be heard on a CD later this year and more details will be released shortly. In late December 2006 The Soft Machine Legacy went into the recording studio in Sutton, Surrey run by Coloseum's drummer extraordinaire and main man Jon Hiseman. Over three days the band recorded seven brand new tracks written by the band (three by Theo) several improvisations and rerecorded a classic Soft Machine track. The band are very pleased with the recordings and they show a slight shift in direction since Theo's joining the band. The tracks will be mixed shortly and the new album should be ready for release in April/May.
2006 NEW YEARS HONOURS LIST The end of year "polls" and lists of progressive rock radio stations are all in - and the third Tangent album released in 2006 "A Place in the Queue" has been very favourably placed.
In more than 10 sets of polls/best of lists "Queue" has been in the top 3 titles of the year... The AURAL MOON listeners poll placed it at number ONE, the JUBALS WARDROBE (progressive soundscapes) list also at ONE, Delicious Agony TWO.. and there are others too. So thanks from the band to anyone who voted for the band in these polls. The Dutch Progressive Rock Poll placed "Queue" at number THREE with the vote for best song only missing the number one spot by virtue of the fact that 2 of the bands songs split the vote.... The biggest Spanish language poll put the Tangent at Number ONE. Jonas of course has had a double whammy, because "Paradox Hotel" by his "other band" :-) has done equally as well.. and Guy Manning has seen his "Ansers Tree" album getting some well deserved honours despite being a late release. As a TREAT for your support... here is a video clip (rough edit) of The Tangent playing a live version of "Lost In London". This is a YOUTUBE clip and hence the picture quality is hardly DVD standard......
